Newsletter, August 2015

I hope you are enjoying what’s become a hot summer for more reasons than the temperature. The highs of this summer here in Victoria included a great Fourth of July celebration and an interactive and informative virtual town hall visit with US Congressman Blake Farenthold. The lows included the massacre of US servicemen right here in the US and the discovery of shocking late-term abortion practices engaged in by Planned Parenthood.

As we finish out this summer, it is absolutely crucial we remain ACTIVELY engaged on issues deeply affecting our security, education, values, and economy. We are working hard to strengthen and preserve this great nation for ourselves and future generations. Let us know if you're ready to get involved!

-Victoria County Chair Michael Cloud

Partnering to help families affected in Charleston shooting
After our Flag Day event was unfortunately rained out, the Victoria GOP donated our already-purchased food to Victoria’s Old Landmark Committee. The food was used for a community picnic which raised funds to support families of the victims of the South Carolina church massacre. Committee President Sandra Avery wanted to express her sincere appreciation for the VGOP’s gift.  And we are grateful for the Old Landmarks Committee's efforts to help bring healing in South Carolina.
Congressman Farenthold Virtual Town Hall | A Great Success
On Monday, July 22, during the VGOP’s monthly meeting, Congressman Farenthold joined us via Skype to discuss matters of concern for VGOP members in attendance.
A full range of relevant issues was discussed, including the Iranian nuclear deal, Eagle Ford Shale concerns, US border security, sanctuary cities, Operation Jade Helm, the Dodd-Frank Act, education, veterans issues, and the preservation of responsible gun ownership. The meeting turned out to be very informative, and we are looking forward to talking with Rep. Farenthold again soon.
Volunteer Spotlight: Janice Ohrt
A special shout out and "Thank You" to Ms. Janice Ohrt!  Ms. Ohrt has spent the summer assisting the VGOP in preparing for its community picnic and its monthly meetings.  Ms. Ohrt worked hard to plan and set up for meetings and whatever else the VGOP needed for its events.  She is the kind of volunteer that enables the VGOP to operate so efficiently.
